Route to Fly from San Diego
Going down to Mexico can be an exhilarating experience that not many private pilots get to have. Be sure to be familiar with the rules and regulations of flying into and out of Mexico. You can find this information in our Mexico section of the website. This is quite the trip as the distance is long and you may need to stop for fuel. Take off, following the rules cross Tijuana at midfield and follow any instructions given to you. From there you can either fly on the west or east side of Baja. However, if you are going to need to stop for fuel, there are not any options on the west side. On the east side, Loreto is recommended; Alaska Airlines even flies into this small town. This is an airport of entry as well, so be sure to fill out all the proper-paper work. From there, Cabo is just a short flight down the coast.
Enjoy the beauty of the countless bays and rustic fishing villages, and if you are flying down at the right time of year, you can see the whales giving birth in the Sea of Cortez. You will also fly over Bahia de los Suenos, one of Baja’s premier resort and master-planned communities, which is a must stay.

What to Do?
Upon landing, if you did not stop in Loreto and fill out the proper paper-work, you must go through customs here in Cabo. You can reference our flying to Mexico handbook in order to make sure that you have gone through the proper procedures. After that, you can take a shuttle or a taxi to wherever your heart desires. You’re in Cabo now so its time to sit back and relax. You became the master of the air when you got your pilot’s license; now it’s time to conquer the ocean. With Manta Custom Scuba, you can not only enjoy the breath-taking views that the Sea of Cortez has to offer, but you can get certified as well! Just be sure to be safe and wait the allotted time before you go flying.
